We believe parents are a child’s first and most important teacher.
RAPP in the Library
Reading And Parents Program (RAPP) packs help parents support their child’s language and reading development at home. RAPP packs are designed for children ages 6 months to 10 years. Ottawa Public Library (OPL) has over 90 RAPP packs available for loan, including some from ALSO’s American Sign Language RAPP (ASL RAPP) collection. RAPP packs are at the Beaverbrook, Carlingwood, St. Laurent, Sunnyside, Greenboro and Cumberland branches. You can also request a transfer, and pick-up a RAPP pack from a branch near you.
ASL RAPP online
As of April 1, 2025, Silent Voice (www.silentvoice.ca) will offer ALSO's ASL RAPP as an online resource for families with Deaf and hard-of-hearing children. We are very happy that ASL RAPP has found a new home. Under the watchful eye of Silent Voice, ASL RAPP will flourish and grow, reaching many more families across Ontario and Canada.
Family Literacy Library
The more books at home the better! ALSO has a terrific family literacy library available for lending. We have books for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school aged children. The library is open to anyone who visits Heartwood House. If you are interested in borrowing a book(s) email Kim .
